modern times happend in Kunsthalle Mannheim. In its main hall visitor's attention is drwan to a large clock attached to a long chain from the ceiling, rotating in space. It's a german standard design clock as to be found in every railway station throughout the country. The time shown is pretty accurate, even though the hour hand seems a bit in advance. Here the railway station clock is part of the art exhibition ecosystem and an artfull object in its own right. 

modern times contrasts the round object clock against uprising lines behind, looking like chart lines, insinuating unhalted progress, growth and success - over time running in circles. The two lower lines seem to add a notion of speed to this perfectly clean environment, no doubts allowed.

Alltogether a very modernist, clear and clean statement, challenging yet not intimidating, very probably not intended so by the architects of this very impressive Art Hall.
